Why Is It News Current Event

You have spent the last several days determining why certain events were newsworthy.

Choose 1 event that interested you the most from any of the 3 papers you analyzed. Discuss why is is newsworthy and address its importance to our study of current affairs using expectations for performance.

  1. The one event that I chose that interest’s me is the article about Barack Obama wanting to change the vista laws. The reason why I think it is newsworthy is because President Barack Obama wants to change the law about deporting a whole bunch of illegal immigrants and if President Barack Obama does change the law then it would keep family from splitting apart. It is also possible that if Barack Obama does change the law then the Latino community will in return vote for him to stay as president. President Barack Obama would probably just be changing the vista law to go for another year in office. It would still be a good thing if Barack Obama did change the vista laws because it would be helping a lot of illegal immigrants and it won’t split up so many families.

  2. The Pre-K funding dilemma article in Star News interested me the most because I believe if you start off by learning at young age, you will be more prepared for first grade and grades to come. I volunteer at Johnson Pre-K, and I watch the young students, they are very attentive and understand a lot more than most children their age. Pre-K teaches and prepares young children for what school will be like. This is important news because many families have young children that want their child to be in Pre-K but now that Pre-K funding is being cut back; not all families will be able to put their child in Pre-K. It would be important to address this in Current Affairs and Issues because some teens might have younger brothers or sisters that want to go to Pre-K and also learning about this will keep us up to date with what is going on locally.

  3. The most important headline to me was from The News & Observers paper. The headline was the Lack of U.S Debt Deal Could Soon Hit Home. I thought this was important because it could affect my education in high school and it would affect universities. This would also affect the military. Because the U.S is in so much debt they have to cut major costs in 2013. This could really take away from education and educational programs. This is important to our study of current affairs and issues because this is an issue that could affect the United States. We need to know about it so that we can be prepared.

  4. The article I have chosen is called “Databases another tool for police.” I chose that article because it states that instead of doing many days of footwork, many times record-checking, and some luck in most of the cases that comes to Wilmington, North Carolina, all of that has been reduced down to just a few simple keystrokes. It is newsworthy because it makes finding criminals a lot easier and it also takes less time so the policemen don’t have to work overtime trying to find a person the robbed a bank or stole things from someone’s house someone. By using the databases, all they have to do is type in some certain things and they can find the person that robbed the bank or the person that stole things from a person’s house. It’s importance in Current Affairs and Issues is that it is a new thing and it is really helpful and it is new thing that is an issue and it helps us find bad people who try to steal things from other people and tries to hurt other people and that is what it has to do with Current Affairs and Issues.

  5. I think out of all the headlines I read on the newspaper study we did, I was most in interested in “Battle for funds start”, which was in the local Star News paper. I think pre-school has such a big impact on small children. It is so important that they get the basic knowledge so that they are prepared for when they start public school. But nowadays, it’s starting to get harder to get little kids into these pre-school centers due to the fact that the government is not providing enough funds for them. This is not only a local issue; it’s a national issue as well. A lot of parents are being put on hold lists with their children because the pre-k centers simply have a limited amount of spaces to fill & less and less funds for them. Education should never be inaccessible to children, especially since we call ourselves the country of “liberty and freedom”.

  6. This topic is important because it is telling you some things about the election and who could win the super Bowl, but in my opinion I don’t think that Denver will go to the super Bowl or this new guy running for President. Denver had beaten the Pittsburgh Steelers in over time by an 80 yard touchdown pass to Demaryius Thomas. The main headline of this paper is “Delays dog Metro’s plan to stop suicides”. Maybe this isn’t the biggest topic on this paper though. Somebody new is running for President of the United States. His name is Timothy P. Carney and he is neither a Moderate nor a Democratic, he is a Conservative Republican.

  7. The Pre-K funding dilemma it’s newsworthy because it focuses on what can affect our future and as citizens we have the power to change it. The Pre-k will be close and then kids will not have a place to learn until they get to kindergarten. This can affect our future because our future is our next generations and if our kids do not educate themselves right now then the future we have might not be the best. There is importance in the hands of our children and taking the Pre-k fund away would be a tragedy.

  8. The story that interests me the most was in the Star News. The headline said: Military Faces Leaner Future. A similar headline was also in The News & Observer. The fact that this story was on the front page of two papers shows how important it is. The story was about possible cutbacks in the military. This is newsworthy because anything involving the military affects the entire country, and thousands of people could lose their jobs. The military protects our country, so less people working for the military might impact our safety. Anytime many people lose their jobs at one time it can have a negative impact on the local and even national economy. If consumers don’t have enough money to buy goods, it can be like a domino effect. A few thousand people losing their job can cause other business to suffer, and that would cause even more people to lose their jobs. This would have the biggest impact on military towns where most of the people work for the military. This is important to Current Affairs because this class is all about current events and how they affect the local area, state, country, and the whole world. Potential military cutbacks is a newsworthy issue that would affect the whole country

  9. The article I choose to right about is the military faces leaner future which talks about Obama cutting funds to troops in Iran to try to save money. But this money is an asset to the troops to get weapons and equipment to win. I think it is news worthy because it talks about the war we are in and how he has budgeted the funds which might make this war take longer and have more casualties. Why this is important is because it is current and it concerns all of us because our families and friends will be in that country for a greater amount of time which is more dangerous.

  10. An event that interested me was the one about how Iran got their second power plant. I think this article is newsworthy because it is on both the local newspaper (Star News) and on a national newspaper (The New York Times) it shows that it is of some type of importance. I feel that if Iran built another power plant because they needed one shows some improvement for the country like that their economy is getting better because they obviously had to pay to get the power plant built. And it seems like to me that Iran is growing in society to because the country was in need of a power plant. This goes back to the beginning of the year when we were learning about globalization because the whole building a power plant would be because of a better economy and the advancement of what is available to people. Even if this article doesn’t affect us directly it is still something to know just in case it does become an issue.

  11. In the New York Times newspaper they had an article about the upcoming vote, and what’s the latest as to what’s happening as it gets closer for time to vote. In the article it states how rivals go after Romney to be a top alternative. In the article it tells what one of the rivals, Newt Gingrich, says that he has been running for years, years, and years. He also said that “you’ve been running since at least the 1990’s. The conference was held in Concord, New Hampshire where there were lots of news reports etc. Gingrich accused Romney of pillaging companies and cutting jobs to enrich himself and his colleagues. Gingrich also compared him to two other presidential candidates. I find this interesting because this should be important to all people around the world. This reflects in our future president.

  12. In The Charlotte Observer there was an article about the upcoming race for the republican position. The article mentioned how Mitt Romney had beaten rick Santorum in the Iowa caucus. The article also mentioned that the next caucus was to be held in New Hampshire. Mitt Romney will not be attending in New Hampshire and instead will be going to South Carolina. Romney feels he has enough support in New Hampshire and doesn’t need to go. Instead he will try and get support from the south. Many people feel he is taking a gamble not going to New Hampshire with Santorum so close behind in points. The race for the republican position is getting intense with time winding down.

  13. The event that interested me the most was an article titled “Obama Plans for Leaner Military”. This topic is important because Obama is taking people out of the military to make it smaller, leaving some people without jobs. There are many people that, right out of high school, go straight into the military. They have not been to college so they won’t have a nice paying job they can go too if they are taken out of the military. Another reason is that if something happens that involves the military but they don’t have enough people, they can’t just call up the ones that they let go and expect the problem to be resolved quickly. It will take time and effort to call up everyone that they let go. This topic is important for Current Affairs and Issues because it can affect us today and our future. It can cost many people and families jobs, nice things and money.

  14. The event that I thought was most interesting was the Obama Tactic: Jab Congress to Hurt Rivals. President Obama is finding ways to manipulate the congress so that he can gain attention of the voters and lead them away from choosing the other candidates in order to win the presidential race. This is newsworthy because this tactic that the president has come up with could really change the way people think about him as a president. In the end, the votes for president could be completely different than what the other candidates and voters had predetermined. This is important in talking about Current Affairs because this topic involves the government and how our country is run. If Obama uses his methods to win the race we could end up having a liberal society as we had discussed in class. President Obama will continue to campaign for votes, but until November, his tactics are still unknown. All we do know as a country is that anyone could win at this rate; it just depends on how the candidates will change our minds.

  15. The Pre-K funding dilemma article in the Star News interested me the most because education is important and if you teach kids at a young age they will be better educated and be well prepared for the future. Also teaching kids at a young age will help our country become more advance and help our country to be more up to date with all the advance technology that we have today. Educating kids at a young age will also help secure the knowledge that kids would have gain knowledge throughout pre-k and school career. The knowledge that will help with finding new resources that will later benefit not only our country but the world and also help increase globalization and diversity among the people. The Pre-K funding dilemma is also news worthy because it focuses on what is potentially affecting our future the most. As citizens we have the power to change the situation that is currently occurring with the educational system. Not allowing kids to learn and to get a better education at an earlier age is not helping our future generation. Our future generation is the current children and future leaders, if the kids go throughout life being uneducated our future generation will be damaged and will not make any progress to be better our country. Our country is already having education issues so if we deny the kids of our country educational rights or education period our country will go from being successful and on top to straight illiterate and at the bottom of the charts. Looking at the status of our country were not far from that and a couple more life changing moves our country can be potentially damaged forever. There is importance of early child development and the children are our future and taking the Pre-k fund away would be a tragedy and is not a carefully thought-out plan for the U.S. and our future. Sure it may seem like a smart decision not but in the long run it is slowly destroying the people and our future.

  16. One of the events that caught my interests the most is all the articles about Iran, and how they will respond with military forces if the United States comes with an aircraft strike force and bomb it the country. We shouldn’t even thing about bombing places we should be focusing on getting the troops out and getting them back to their family’s back home. But now we moved out of Iraq and hopefully we will get out of Afghanistan soon to but now the government was stupid enough to send marines to Africa to train there military when that is the one place we don’t need to go.

    ReplyDelete
  17. The article that interested me most was the headline that read “Iraqi Insurgents taking up Politics” which came from the New York Times. The reason that this caught my attention was because it reminded me of a similar situation in Afghanistan a nation that we currently are at war with. After the Afghani Insurgents known as the mujahedeen kicked out the Soviet Union they were quickly replaced by the Taliban. Insurgents had become the government and we were forced to go in and clean the nation up. Now after an almost 9 year long war we are finally out of the nation of Iraq. From this headline I fear that this insurgent group like the Taliban may take power and sadly in a few years we might be back in Iraq once more. This piece of news is important to all people in our nation. We all are Americans and if America is at war so are we.

  18. The one event that I chose to talk about is When Santorum Left the Senate, Familiar Hands Reached Out. The reason I believe this is news worthy is because it shows how one person can change so much whether it be good or bad and how when that person steps back all the changes they made can slowly become unraveled or more tightly wound. I think of it like this when Santorum left the senate and others were reaching out with offers that would help us as a nation then maybe he shouldn’t have been there. This is also news worthy because its part of the government and mostly everyone wants to know exactly what’s going on in the government. Whether that be the decisions being made or the voting that’s taking place. This is important to our study of current affairs because government is what we are discussing government right now. It is also important to current affairs because government representatives voting are going on right now in Iowa.

  19. “The Pre-K Funding Dilemma” is a very serious issue right now. This dilemma could cause the North Carolina economy to be thrown off course, considering many teachers would be out of work for a while, parents would have no place to place their children while at work, and the children would also be behind in their learning track. It is vital for children that age to receive proper education to pave the way into higher learning. Parents may not be equipped to accomplish such tasks, though the material may be basic, it is still a necessity. Even though the statement is cliché, “these children are our future,” and failing to provide the proper foundation for them academically can jeopardize their future and our state’s future. The public school funding is being cut drastically, and if we cut and minimize any more of its programs we will fail to meet the educational standards. The feeling of cutting corners and minimizing financial strain in this aspect presently will create a larger financial dearth than experiencing right now. This issue may seem minute right now, but it will eventually open up to larger and more difficult issues to keep at bay.

  20. “Pre-K Funding Dilemma” found in the Star News local paper was interesting to me because I love little kids, so when I hear or see something about their schooling, I would like to know what is going on. I believe this article was posted to the front page of the Star News because the newspaper writer’s see that Pre-K is becoming more popular, so they would like the parents/guardians of the toddlers that are attending, or will be attending Pre-K, to know about what is going on with the funding. So when something is said about there being a problem with funding, then the parents/guardians of the toddlers need to know about it. Parents/guardians who are contemplating the idea of their child attending Pre-K should know about the funding dilemma(s) because if their child is not going to be supported financially in school, then why should their child even attend that school? Parents/guardians need to know about the funding dilemma(s) so that they do not run into the problem of their child not being supported financially. I believe there should be more opportunities for eligible kids to attend Pre-K. I think Pre-K is a good start to school. I attended Pre-K when I was a little girl and loved every bit of it. I think Pre-K gives little kids a small taste of what Kindergarten will be like. It gives them a small taste of the atmosphere and the experience. But in some ways, Pre-K can be looked, and is looked, down upon. The opposing side from the side that I just argued is that little kids who do attend Pre-K can also formulate the opinion that they do not like Pre-K – so they probably will not like Kindergarten. I think that is sometimes how come Pre-K is looked down upon. Because the parents of the little kids do not want their child to dislike school, so they do not want their child to formulate their opinion while they are so young. But in some cases Pre-K is a must or a have-to. In some cases, both parents work at the same time and they need someone to take care of their kid(s) while they are at work. That is a case in which Pre-K is a plus. So, all-in-all, I am happy that the writer of this article was allowed to make this a headline.

  21. The article I chose is called “Migrants’ New Paths Reshaping Latin-America” and it is news worthy because it is describing the condition of America’s job market. Originally people immigrated from Latin-American to the United States because there were plenty of jobs but now they are going back to Latin-American to get a job. America job market is becoming more and more competitive. In this job market to work at a place other than a fast food restaurant you have to have a bachelor’s degree. This article is news worthy because it is describing the current state of our job market and how it is affecting Americans.
This is important to our Current Affairs and Issues studies because the class is currently working on Goal 1.02 which states “The learner will analyze the role of religion and culture in modern politics” and the United States job market is a part of politics. The American culture is evolving and we are becoming more modern and our job market requires highly-skilled workers such as computer engineers, lawyers, teachers and medical doctors. Our culture in America is using more technology than in the past and companies are using more technology, the American culture is becoming more digital, therefore America needs highly-skilled workers to fill those highly-skilled jobs.

  22. The article that interested me the most was “Progress told to clarify tree removal policy”. It was basically talking about how progress energy was planning on eliminating the trees from their customer’s lawns with the intention of preventing possible power outages. This is unfair for some of their customers because most people plant the trees in their yards for decoration. I feel that the customers should have a say in whether or not their trees get removed from their yard. During the summer some children like to sit under trees for shade when they are tired. If they take their trees, students will not want to go outside and play anymore and the obesity rate will most likely rise. Them taking their trees are like symbiotic relationships in science. They both benefit but one may be unhappy with the situation and its possible outcome.

Heating oil bills surge is an important topic because people need to be informed with the rates they are now going to have to pay. Reason for knowing a head of time is for the family to be on a budget and won’t be in debt and having no money. In fact, one of the biggest dilemmas about that is the simple fact that now people who could barely afford what they were paying before so now they probably won’t be able to afford it now. So now, a lot of families are going to freeze because of not being able to afford it. That means people who don’t have the heat might die. Let alone this is one of the coldest winters yet. Seeing the colder it gets the higher the heating bill rate goes up. But if people can’t get the necessities then people are going to die.

  24. I thought that all of the topics that we studied were really interesting, but the one that I thought was the most interesting was the “Lack of U.S. Debt Deal Could Soon Hit Home” topic in The News and Observer newspaper. One reason that I chose this topic is because I thought that it was interesting to learn about how the nation is in debt, and some of the solutions that the government is trying to do to make the debt decrease. Some of the solutions that are being done to decrease national debt is taking money from public schools, doctor’s offices, and stores. These solutions can affect many people because many people will lose jobs, and they might have to take a cut in pay so that the government can take the money that they need. This is a serious matter for some people, and that’s why it’s good to have in the newspaper so that people can be informed of things like this.

  25. Remembering the Lives of Three Young Sisters

This topic was categorized as news because this is a family who lost three young daughters (Lilian, Sarah and Grace Badger) along with their grandparents. This was a devastating moment to many of people around the world because not only did they lose their three little daughters and grandparents, but it was on Christmas day. Hundreds of mourners attended this funeral on January 5 at St. Thomas Church in Manhattan. The parents of the three young girls were destroyed emotionally about the situation. I believe this is important to the study of current affairs because Christmas is a very cheerful holiday and to have five family members pass on the day of Christmas is very detrimental to not only the family, but the spirit of Christmas itself.

  26. Out of all the newspapers I’ve read, the one that caught my attention was the Los Angeles Times. The article that caught my eye was about Rep. Gabrielle Giffords being back on her feet and ready to get back to work. She and her husband went to the shooting site today to have a remembrance day for the 6 that were killed and the 13 that were wounded. She recited the pledge of aliegence with her husband and other Reps.

  27. Reading through these articles, I came across a lot of boring articles. None of them really interested me, but I thought the One Tree Hill article was pretty decent. The article addressed some of the cast member’s favorite spots in Wilmington, such as restaurants and clothing stores. I found it interesting because it would be cool for a One Tree Hill fan to bump into one of their favorite cast members. In my opinion, this is news, but it’s news that applies to certain people. Because, if you’re a One Tree Hill fan then this would be pretty important news for you. But, if you’re a person that isn’t a fan of the show or has never heard of the show, then it wouldn’t apply to you. This doesn’t really apply to Current Affairs, but I feel that it shows which restaurants are affordable and economically better. Because one of the stars said if you want a cheap, but appetizing meal you can go to Flaming Amy’s.

  28. The article that I found the most interesting was Obama leading towards a leaner Military which was in The News and Observer paper. This story was about how there might be cutbacks in the Military. This is important because America’s safety is really dependent on the Military, so if there are cutbacks then who knows how this could impact our safety. Our Military helps guarantee our safety and without as many Military men and women then people begin to feel as if they are not as safe as they could be due to the cutbacks. This is a very newsworthy topic because people need to be aware of what might happen and how this might affect their everyday life. Also Military personnel can lose their jobs and that can lead to a bad economy. This relates to Current Affairs because this class talks about events that take place and how they can affect multiple peoples’ lives. It is a newsworthy article that may end up affecting our entire country.

  29. The event that interested me the most was the Pre-k funding dilemma. This article is important because it affects everyone and without education in our lives we will never succeed. Kids are our future and they won’t succeed if the Pre-k funds are cut. If kids are our future this means that if they don’t have an education then they won’t learn how to do anything like reading or writing. In this world you need to read and write in your daily life. Pre-k is when you have fun and socializes with other kids and it is good to socialize with others because in the real world you do it every day and this is where you start school and start to get an education. Kids need to get an education to learn and experience this opportunity and get benefits from pre-k for the future. If the Pre-k funds are cut then our future generation will struggle and fall.

One event that interested me the most from the 3 papers I analyzed was an article form The News & Observer from the state newspaper from Raleigh, North Carolina. This article is called Lack of U.S. debt deal could soon hit home. It talks about how because of the lack to solve the more than 1.2 trillion shortage of money there will have to be spending cuts. These spending cuts will affect everyone and they are coming soon!! Which is why it is newsworthy it is said in the article that it will affect North Carolina’s schools, stores, and doctors’ offices. People are constantly worrying about funding and if they will have money for tomorrow or later on in life. It was on the front page because as I said already it affects everyone and people are concerned with how they will manage financially. This addresses to our study of current affairs because this is happening currently at this time period and is something that affects people.

  31. The event that I thought was interesting was Out of Order: Offensive-Smelling Bugs Put U.S. Farmers on the Defensive. I thought this was interesting because it was telling you of a bug that is harming farmer’s crops and how the bugs smell really bad. The article said they smell like “cilantro mixed with burnt rubber and dirty sox.” The event is newsworthy because it is telling of a bug that is infesting plants and crops. The bugs are also getting into people’s homes and crawling on the floors. The article also shares how the bugs got here and how many states are being affected by the bug. This relates to our study of Current Affairs because it is telling us what is happening now in the U.S. and how it is affecting our farmers crops which would be our food.

  32. One of the articles that interested me most from the newspapers was included in The New York Times. The article was titled Iran Trumpets Nuclear Ability at 2nd Plant. I feel this article is newsworthy because it talks about Iran and their decision to build a new nuclear plant which seems to me like a bad idea because nuclear energy can create nuclear bombs can be used to wipe out a lot of things take cities for example. This issue relates to current affairs and issues because it if used for the wrong reasons could destroy cities and other important land marks which in turn could make history. I really enjoyed reading this article and would like to learn more about it.

  33. All of the topics that I have read over were very interesting, but the one that caught my attention the most was Training: Part of states lure for jobs. This article was found in The News and Observer which is based in Raleigh. This article, in my opinion, is newsworthy because there is a very big conflict between these businesses and the state. There are disagreements with the state because they are paying for this curriculum and training when most of the citizens of the state say that the businesses should be paying for it, because it is in their benefit. This concerns many workers in the area as well as the knowledge of their job. Even though there is conflict, there is still room for more job offers, which the state needs. Even though tapping into the state’s budget causes concern, I believe that this will offer a very high raise in employment throughout the entire state. In my opinion, after reading this article, I agree that the state should offer more curriculum for the workers, which will equal more jobs. This is a current issue that I thought needed to be addressed because this affects many people and their jobs locally, as well as state-wide.

  34. The story “Iran Trumpets Nuclear Ability at 2nd Plant” from” The New York Times” was the story that interested me the most. Nuclear power is a very serious thing. The reason I think that this story was important is because I believe that it could be dangerous for a country like Iran to have nuclear power. I do not feel that a country that is run under a dictatorship should be in control of something like that. There is too much of a risk of that power getting into the wrong hands. If that were to happen it would be threatening to the U.S. and other countries as well. This is important to our study of Current Affairs and Issues because it is something that could potentially affect us and many other people.

  35. The Article that appears to affect me the most would be the one title Pre-k Funding Dilemma. This is extremely important because children are the future. All though this sounds over used if you actually think about it, it is a great truth. What is happening is that the government is revoking large sums of money from Pre-K causing the children to not be able to go. Although it doesn’t seem like much being only Pre-K but it gets children ready for what they are going to do until they are 18. I hope I has condensed you of the importance of this matter.

  36. Out of the multiple articles that I read, I think the one that interested me the most was in our local newspaper. The Pre-K Funding Dilemma article is talking about the cuts that are happening and how some children are put on waiting lists and will not be able to attend pre-k as soon as their parents like. This is important for the future of kids because education is an important key to being successful in life. Pre-k is what gets children equipped for elementary school and teaches them basic knowledge. Being put on a waiting list can even put a child behind others because you don’t know how long you would have to wait just to let your child start getting an education. Every child should have access to a Pre-K and delaying an education to children is unusual to me. 6,300 kids future are put on hold because of the state’s budget cuts. I don’t think education should be cut down for any kind of circumstances because education is what determines a person’s future.

  37. In all of the papers that I looked at, the article that interested me most was “Battle for funds starts” located in the Star News Paper. This article interested me because preschool is the time when children learn the basic and most important aspects of life. There is already a hard enough time to find a preschool for children and when funds are cut back then it makes it even harder for young kids to start their school lives off right. Preschool is what gets you ready for Elementary school and beyond. This rising problem is not only happening in our state, it is a national issue. Education is one of the most important aspects to make it in life, and to cut back on those funds while other places wish they had enough funds to do schooling is selfish I believe.

  38. The event that interested me most from the newspapers was Obama’s plan for the military’s future. President Obama plans for budget cuts to the military in the coming months. I consider this to be newsworthy because it affects not only the military but our nation as a whole. This is obviously a topic buzzing around America because every newspaper I looked at had at least a little information about this topic if not a large front-page headline. This issue involves our government leaders and a lot of decision making. It is important to Current Affairs because it is a current issue. This current issue involves the military, America and several other countries. This is a part of Current Affairs because we study current issues worldwide and I believe that this issue is both of those things. This is a very recent topic but it holds a lot of importance in America.

  39. “Remembering the Lives of Three Young Sisters” from “The New York Times” was the story that interested me the most. I found it interesting because it was about these three little girls and their grandparents that got stuck in a fire and were killed. I thought it was interesting how many people were gathered around and how many cared about these five people. Everyone showed how much they cared by showing up at the funeral and comforting the parents of these young children. I find it interesting to hear stories about house fires and preferably the ending to be a positive one, but in this case it obviously wasn’t like that. This is important to our study of Current Affairs and Issues because it happens every day and some of these stories make history.

  40. The topic that caught my attention out of all was the “Pre-K founding dilemma”. The reason as to why this seem important to me was because about 6,300 kids are going to be affected by state cuts if they do decide to take it off. This is important because if this does happen kids might probably have a hard time with kindergarten. Children could have a hard time with kindergarten because kids are supposed some basic information in Pre-K that goes on to Kindergarten. The basic idea of washing their hands after touching something bad, and waiting their turn after someone is using toys, how to use certain objects in class. When kids get to Kindergarten they might have no idea on what to do there. The unemployment levels would also get higher because of all the teachers that would lose their jobs. There are also some pro’s to that situation which would be that the state would save a lot of money from teacher pay, lunch, books and all the school supplies needed. The reason as to why I think this was put in the news is to alert people as why is going to happen and how many kids are going to be affected by this. Also others need to be informed as to what is happening around them and how we could be affected.

  41. The article that I found most important was the Pre-K funding dilemma in the Star News Wilmington newspaper. This is an important issue because statistics show that if a child I successful in Pre-K, they are most likely to be successful in high school. Parents also find this important because they are very concerned in their child being taken care of educationally. Pre-K funding’s are being cut back dramatically and parents who are raising toddlers around the ages of four and five are trying their best to open and raise more funding’s. Not only is Pre-K funding’s being cut back, but also teacher assistants funds have decreased and many teachers are left to take care of their work by themselves which can be very stressful. Funding’s being cut back is not only a national problem, but it is also taking place all around the world making this a important topic.

  42. The event that was most interesting was the article about the economy in Greece. It interested me because this summer I am supposed to travel to France, Italy and Greece on a student ambassador program. Seeing as how I am going to Greece it was nice to get some insight on how things are all the way across the world. I also thought it was interesting that young couples, that are both archeologist started a project in which they will grow and ship foods. Not to mention right now in Greece it’s hard to find jobs because of the economy, I believe the couple had to do what they had to do in order to make money to live. Hopefully this summer when I travel abroad I will be able to learn more about Greece’s economy first hand. The article actually shows you how people work in the world, if the economy is bad it’s up to you to strive. Whether you’re going to give up or keep trying but in this case the key is to keep trying.

The event that most caught my attention was the Pre-K funding dilemma in the Star-News article. This definitely made headlines here locally because if there is something going on within school communities many parents become aware of their children’s education. There are many families that have young children who attend or are preparing to attend Pre-K and if there are families that have children that attend school they seem more aware of what is going on. If they cut back on the Pre- K funding’s many toddlers will lose the opportunity that many get of being able to know what school is like at a young age. There are many toddlers that will also not be able to go because their family will not be able to provide the money for them to attend Pre-K. Pre-K is such an important role of little children’s life because it determines how well they will do later on in school. As many people may know children learn better when they are small, if they get the privilege of attending Pre-K they will adapt top changes they will have to make. Allowing toddlers can also help parents in a way because during the time they are at school they may be working so they do not have to worry about their kids and they will know they are safe at school. If they do decide to cut back on the fundings this change may affect the next generation because what they learn in Pre-K directs their life experience for the rest of their lives. I hope they do not cut back on the Pre-K fundings because I remember when I was in Pre-K it was such a good experience and I would like for all the children to also be given that wonderful experience.
