  1. During the campaign I have learned a lot about human rights. For one thing I actually learned some human rights laws. Did you know there is a law specifically made for women who are expecting, and for the future child? The laws protect them and make sure that they get the proper care. I didn’t even know that there was a universal declaration of human rights. Looking for a topic and writing a speech on that topic allowed me to open my mind and actually know what’s going out there in the word. I know there is a saying laws are made to be broken, but when it comes to laws like these I think its way beyond the point of just a simple law being broken. A lot of countries don’t even have laws against some human rights issues. For example Africa. I know it’s a continent but the countries within it don’t have laws against it and some do. Personally I believe I it is important for things like this to be brought to awareness. Here in America we even have human rights issues, but we should be thankful that it’s not as bad as some other countries. Not only have I learned about awareness but I also improved some on my speech skills, and writing. I enjoyed the campaign and will do it over and over to bring awareness if I could.

  2. During this awareness project I have learned many things. Many of the things I learned came from research, writing and presenting a speech, and launching a campaign. From the research I learned more about human rights. I learned about human rights violations in other countries as well as my own. I also learned better time management for my research. From the writing and presenting of my speech I learned more about the methods of persuasion and the components of a good speech. From launching a campaign I learned more about raising awareness. I learned how to get others involved in a campaign and how to keep people informed about the issue. From this project I learned a lot more about human rights issues. I learned about what a human rights issue really is. I learned that you have to look deeper than the issue. You have to know where it began, who it affects and why it’s an issue in the first place. You also have to thoroughly know your subject. You can’t just say something is an issue without really knowing why. All in all I learned a lot from this project. This project helped me to develop and improve a lot of my skills.

  3. This Awareness Project has taught me several things. Throughout the whole month that we studied human rights, I feel like I have a much better understanding of what they are & how we can help if they are being violated. I had never stopped to really think how human rights affect us individually. As a matter of fact, we looked over rights that I didn’t even know existed. I was much familiarized with my human right, which was education for all, but I definitely wasn’t much familiarized with rights being violated in other countries of the world. A lot of students focused on rights in countries like Africa, Mexico, and the Middle East. If it hadn’t been for this project, I would have never been aware of the issues going on there. Another important lesson I got out of this project was that it doesn’t matter who you are or where you are from or what color your skin is, everyone should be treated the same.

  4. I learned a lot on how to set up a successful campaign, including on how to make your topic seem like it’s more important than everyone else’s. And from all the speeches that were presented it showed me how many different human rights were being violated. Since the Awareness Project’s main focus was on human rights i learned many new rights that I never even knew we had. I was also introduced to many different issues that I never even knew existing in some countries. To make your speech effect I learned that you should always have an interesting hook at the beginning and provide examples of why your topic is important without these factors then you will end up with a boring and ineffective speech that will not grab anyone’s attention! And always adding some sort of visual was a good way that I felt grabbed a lot of people’s attention during the speeches. And my view on human rights is much more developed than how it was before we started the Awareness Project before I never even knew that there were such things of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

  5. Taking a look back to when this campaign first started I feel as though the speeches went smoothly, some maybe a bit more than others. Thinking about the campaign as a whole I feel it was fun, informative, and overall a good experience. If there was one thing I have learned from this campaign it is to better prioritize or manage my tasks. I now know for next time that I need to work faster and more diligently to accomplish my goals. I feel as though one of the reasons I was underprepared was because I lacked the proper amount of research. Next time we have to research I will go through and plan out what I want to research by asking myself questions about my topic then going on the internet and searching for the answers. My self-overall evaluation for my awareness project is that I did ok but for sure could have done much better.

I now know how just how important human rights issues are. I think I have learned a lot about all the problems that are occurring in the world in regards to people violating human rights. For one I have learned that in Africa women’s healthcare is not as well as it should be. I have also learned that discrimination is a big issue not just in America, but all over the world. Though we focused on human trafficking in Africa there are many issues in other places. This whole campaign taught me that even though I am still a teenager I can make a difference it doesn’t matter how big or how small of a difference I make I am helping people and that’s all that matters. Over I think my knowledge of human rights to a big step in the right direction and I can honestly say I know more about it now than I did a month ago.

  6. I think that my mind has grown over this topic. I have learned that there is just more things happening in the world than things are happening in America. The topic that I chose was the Trail of death, which is people are being killed in Africa because of a rebel is Army called the Lord Resistance Army (LRA). They are kidnapping children, Women, and even men, but they are training these people that they take from their home and sending them on the front lines to be killed so that the other men do not die. These children are being beated to death and when they are not following orders or directions they get whipped or even killed. The Women are also being whipped for not following directions and getting raped so the men having children being raised in this environment. There is an organization called Invisible Children that are trying to help to stop this and building a rehab center for people have escaped or gotten out of the LRA. They are also doing donations to the children there how cant afford enough food or go to school. Another topic that won the Awareness Campaign was Human Trafficking in Africa. Women are being promised to have a better life, but are only following the wrong person down a rabbit hole. I couldn’t imagine what happens to those people being brought in to Prostitution. Those Women/men have no choice because they have been said if they leave they will kill them or kill their family. Human Trafficking is not all about prostitution people are being enslaved like it was here in the 1800’s hundreds.

  7. The main thing I have learned over the course of doing the awareness project is that many human rights are being violated in many different countries and nothing is being changed. By doing this project I now feel more experienced with doing speeches. The topic I researched was equal pay for equal work. Through my research I found that in the United States certain jobs men are being paid 73 cents more for every dollar a woman makes. I found this quite shocking because a woman can do the same work a man can do. Even though my topic did not get chosen for the campaign, I really enjoyed my project. The topic my class chose for the campaign was Human Trafficking in Africa. After researching this topic I found that human trafficking in Africa is growing and nothing is being done to stop it. Human Trafficking in Africa is major issue that’s needs to be addressed and I am very glad we chose to do this campaign. Through doing this campaign I have found that you really can make a change if get out and try. Before this project I knew nothing about human rights issues but now I know that there are many being violated. Many people suffer because human rights are being violated and nothing is being done to stop it. Well I am glad that our class stepped out and let people know about a serious human rights violation. I really enjoyed this Awareness Project and I would love to do another.

  8. Over the awareness project, I have learned that many of the human rights are being violated all over the world. I also learned that there are many organizations that help try to end human trafficking by creating projects and setting them up in many different countries. Another thing that I have learned over the awareness project is that human trafficking in Africa is a big issue because there aren’t many laws that state the abolishment of human trafficking. Many people are victimized from human trafficking in Africa, and there is no way for them to be freed from human trafficking if there aren’t any laws to end it. I also learned that in Bahrain, there were medics that were tortured and left in a cold room for 7 days. The medics are suing the military staff for the violation of their human rights. From the campaign, I learned that there are thousands of innocent people who are trafficked across the countries of Africa each year. I also learned from the campaign that many of the human trafficking victims are women. I grew in my understanding of human rights issues because I now know that there are many innocent people who suffer from torture, pain, cruelty, and forced labor. I think that there should be many more organizations and individuals trying to stop the violations of the human rights because human rights violations are a big issue in the world.

  9. Over the course of this awareness project I learned about many things that are happening around the world that are violating human rights. From the research that we had to do to prepare ourselves I found that there are a lot of people and organizations that we don’t hear about but they are taking action to stop these violations. My understanding on human rights issues has developed in a huge way. I now almost fully understand the consequences if you are on the receiving side of the violations. This has broadened my perspective on how easy I have life right now because I look and actually understand what some people have to deal with in their everyday lifestyles. The speeches that we presented taught me majority of what I now know about human rights acts. I also learned a lot of information about our rights in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights document that we examined. I now feel more confident on how to bring awareness to these issues that are happening around us.

Throughout the Awareness Project I’ve learned many things that have brought me to think how grateful we need to be about having the opportunity to an education and freedom. Many people take school for granted, in where there are many children who dream of going to school. From this project in general I never knew that there was a document (Universal Declaration of Human Rights) that included laws that every human being has that stand on earth. When I was preparing myself toward giving a speech I was very nervous at first, but when I presented my speech I soon learned that as long as you practice and had all the right resources there is nothing to fear about. All of the speeches dealt with humans being treated unequally. I also never knew that there are many countries all over the world that violate many human rights. There are many people that don’t have access into human rights. Throughout my research, since my topic was based on human trafficking I learned that human trafficking is the second largest criminal industry. Each year 800,000 men, women and children are trafficked throughout borders not knowing what they will expect. Throughout the campaign I had the opportunity to go to New Hanover High School and represent WECHS , to create awareness of how human trafficking is violating human rights . We were able to create pamphlets, articles, posters and create letters to send to the government asking them for help, towards the issue of human trafficking. Since my speech was voted the whole ninth grade focused on human trafficking in Africa. I also learned that the best way to create awareness is by talking and getting the word out, because not many people know about the issue that is occuring. In fact there are many ways to help but not many people know how to that’s why is best to speak and give lots of information to people because there are maby people who are willin to help to impact he issue. Throughout this project I had the opportunity to learn how many people suffer from this worldwide issue.

  11. Throughout this whole Human Rights campaign project I have learned way more than I thought I would have. There are many laws that I didn’t know that existed that exist. During the process of the campaign I found a lot of interesting topics that were very good. I think that everyone should be treated equally regardless of skin color, ethnicity, and gender. Many human rights are being violated every day at any hour, anywhere. I believe there could be a stop to all this confusion. People probably, most likely don’t even know why they do it. It affects children: boys and girls. I further more believe that many issue like human trafficking, abuse against women, kidnapping, and any other thing that harms a child is neglecting everyone. It can affect a lot of people whether you’re going threw it or not. Whenever I was doing the research on this topic I came across many organizations that would help prevent human trafficking. You could donate money, but I don’t really think that it’s all about money. I think it’s more about the quality of, not the amount of money. I know you need money for certain things, but sometimes it’s not about money. The majority of all this drama is directed towards the women. About 80 percent. Everyone is a gift from God, and I don’t think that anyone should be tortured, abused, used, or anything else.

  12. I’ve learned quite a bit over the course of the Awareness Project. I learned different issues around the world that were happening and how they were affecting human rights. It was interesting hearing what the country was doing for that specific problem in their area and what they allowed and didn’t allow. The research was fun because you got to look into the depth of the problem and not just the surface. You got to learn about something that you wanted to learn about and put the issue out in the world. The campaign was fun to do because you learned about the problem going on in Africa with human trafficking. You got to learn about what they were doing to try and stop the problem and what was behind it. You also got to learn why human trafficking in Africa was an issue.
I grew in learning human rights because I didn’t know any. I grew by learning some human rights and the speeches kind of gave you examples of human rights. I also grew by learning if countries were following the human rights or not. If human rights were being violated, then I grew in human rights by learning how the country was trying to stop the problem.

  13. During the process of working on this project, I’ve learned a lot about human rights and how they are being violated. It made me realize that not only in America or North Carolina that rights are being violated, but in other countries as well. For example, in Africa, human trafficking is all over and women and young girls are being beaten and sold off, prostituted on the streets, raped, and even more. This whole campaign made me realized how valuable our rights are. Some of the rights we looked at I didn’t even know they existed. Some of them I didn’t even understand, but just reading them and studying what they were made an impact that we have so many rights that we should learn about. Another thing I learned about during this project was how to actually put together a campaign. Setting up the letters and the articles, making pamphlets, posters… working on this project taught me a lot and I’m very glad I had an experience to learn about human rights.

  14. In the making of the awareness campaign I have learned a lot of about human rights. Going to all these websites and read all these awful thing that happen to women and children and men during when they are trafficked. They go through awful things that happen to the children at very young ages. The women had a very bad time they would get beat kicked whipped for not following directions. The women would also get raped by the men more than once a day some of the times. Do a project like this really thought me a lesson is to be happy for what I have because there are kids, women and men not just in Africa but all around the world who have much less than I have. During the research I found out that the people of South Africa were very scared during the world cup because they thought that it would be the perfect time for people to get trafficked but it turned out that they were scared to do anything with the high amount of law enforcement that was going to be there.

  15. In the making of the Awareness Campaign I learned many things. One major thing I learned about was the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. That contains many laws and article saying things that are not allowed anywhere in the world, but still some of them are being violated. Before we started the campaign, I only knew a few laws on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. In front of the class, each student had to give a speech about a certain topic. I did not know of half of the topics that were discussed. As the speeches were given, the class heard and saw examples of how their law was being violated. The research process took a while but after the research was done it was really easy. I also learned about the freedom of other countries. I looked at a map on a web site and most countries around the world are either not free or partly free. Another thing that I thought was important was learning about all the organizations that are trying to help stop the people that are violating the laws and articles. One thing that shocked me the most was how people could do these things to innocent people who did nothing to harm them or to make them feel bad. There is no reason to kill, traffic, or hurt other people. I believe that human rights are a good thing and we are better with that laws, articles, and rights then without them. I also believe that without laws, articles, and human rights we would not be free and this country would not be free and every country would not be free. During the process of the project, I have grown a lot. I understand human rights a lot better now and looking back on the time that was needed to make this project was time well spent. I liked doing this project and I hope we do another one like it but we work in a group the whole time.

  16. I learned many things in the awareness project and lots of them are very sad. I learned that people are being kidnapped all around the world especially in Africa and being sold on the market to be slaves and many other horrible things. But I also have learned that there are human right laws out there that people try to enforce to stop human trafficking and save lives. Also I learned that many people can help the cause and stop the trafficking that is affecting our world. One way is that you can donate to an organization that tries to stop this modern day slavery. This act is taking eight hundred thousand people each year in to the cycle of human trafficking. Most of them are women and children that will be sex slaves or beggars for their new masters. I also grew in my understanding of human rights issues by learning laws and who it affects in the process which is families, businesses, cities, and countries. Many people are affected when one person is taken which is horrible because the people will keep stealing other people because it’s good money and it’s easy. So we can never stop human trafficking but we can slow it down if we try hard enough. There are also fundraisers that help raise money to stop human trafficking. That’s what I have learned about human trafficking but always checks on sites for other problems or events.

  17. In the beginning of the awareness project I had very little knowledge on the human rights and what can be done to stop it and that there are organizations trying to help out humans that are suffering from the insane actions that are being done in their homeland. After the first day of working on the awareness project I had learned so much on the universal human’s right declaration. When I was told that I had to write a speech from an issue that is going on around the world I had an issue in mind when I was told it has to relate to one of the universal laws. My speech was about discrimination towards Latinos and my speech was not very long but it was also not that short. When I looked up information on discrimination towards Latinos I found a lot of information and several websites with a lot of information on each web page. I took several class days to write all of the information but most of my information I put in my speech. When it came to working on the campaign it was not hard but not that easy as well but I managed to get through all of that and I had several foundations/ organizations helping to stop the discrimination towards Latinos and some of the hatred towards them as well. I knew more about the discrimination towards Latinos because I have seen it happen on the news and I have heard stories about them being put in jail just because they look like a Latino. I figured that if this does not stop then it will be like the discrimination between blacks and whites. So I thought if that did happen a lot of people would probably die just because of their skin color.
I grew a lot from my understanding of human rights like I didn’t know half of the information that was presented to me by my classmates but I did learned more about the issues going on when the class was told that we had to pick 3 universal topics and research about them then narrow it down to one topic that your awareness project would be on. I had learned a lot compared to what I had already known in the beginning of the project.

  18. Well, over the last few weeks while I have worked on my speech, research, and project, I have learned a lot of stuff. I now have a better grasp on understanding things and how I should be thankful that I live in the United States because in many other places the human rights that we receive don’t mean anything. In the speeches, I heard information about a lot of issues around the world and how my fellow classmates felt about them. In the research I had to work hard to find information on a number of different topics and get down the correct info and double check things so that part of the whole event was defiantly not my favorite. And of course the actual campaign taught me a lot about human rights and just how much work is put into a campaign in general. During the project, I began to understand what I was reading and researching more and more. I guess you could say that I developed an understanding for the human rights and what I mean when I say that is… that I understand that there is a lot of stuff that goes on in today’s day in age that contradicts some of the rights. Well, actually there is probably at least one issue or a problem with people breaking a right for every single right if that makes sense. But overall, I learned that even if we all have rights as human beings, we really don’t. Because somewhere, maybe a little deeper than we all would like to look, every law and right that is put in place is broken. It may be because of skin color, a person’s sex, religion or where you come from but in the end, it’s still all the same in my book. If you are human, you deserve your human rights.

  20. After completing the awareness campaign I learned a lot of information about human trafficking and human rights. I learned a lot about what is going on around the world from hearing my classmate’s speeches. Many people did topics from other countries and majority of the speeches were about women’s rights. While researching my topic for the speech I learned a lot about women’s rights and a lot about the customs of Saudi Arabia. It was very interesting to learn about other cultures even though we were focusing about what bad things were going on in these places. I feel like we did the best we could to raise awareness. While doing the research on human trafficking, I learned about poverty and organizations that are working to help these situations. I really liked designing the poster and pamphlet for the project. The letter writing was okay too, it was the first real business letter that I have ever written. Overall I liked doing the awareness campaign and I learned a lot about other countries.

  21. During the past few weeks, I have learned many different things from the campaign such as the human rights and how the world is affected by them every day. Throughout my research, I realized that all over the world human rights are being taken away from human beings who cannot speak out or fight back. As a class we went through the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and I found many laws that I had never even heard of before or laws that I knew were being violated somewhere around the world. My research also helped me get a better understanding of the laws all over the place and when, where, why, how, etc. they were being affected. The speech I gave was another big part of my understanding because it was all of my research combined together which was made to sound professional and the speech made me realize I was learning something and promoting awarness of the cause. This campaign gave me a much clearer look on the world dealing with human rights being violated. I grew a lot during the campaign. At the beginning of the campaign I was not so all that exited to research my topic to begin with and then after Human Trafficking, but I learned much more than I thought I would have like which countries tolerate the abuse of the human rights.

  22. During the awareness project when we presented speeches in class I learned a lot about how many human rights are being violated and how they mostly reflected on women. I did my awareness speech on forced abortions in china. Before the awareness campaign I had no idea that women in china are forced to give abortions and I had no idea that gendercide and infanticide is taking place. Other speeches that were presented in class mainly spoke upon women’s rights being violated such as domestic abuse, sex trafficking, health care neglect, not being able to drive, and many more. During my research of forced abortion in china I learned all about china’s government. China depends of the one child policy because of their one million growing population. The one child policy strictly prohibits a family to have more than one child per house hold. If the authorities find out that a woman is carrying another child she would be forced to have an abortion even as late as seven, eight, and nine months into the pregnancy. When finding a primary resource I found out that a lady was forced to give an abortion at six months and she died. Since families are only allowed to have one child they would rather prefer a male instead of a female. This means that if a family has a female they have a choice of abandoning or killing that child so that they would be able to have male. This situation is considered infanticide. During the campaign of human trafficking in South Africa we all made letters to give to the government to help stop this issue. We also created posters to grab the attention of the kids at Hanover so that they will know the awareness of the situation. I found organizations and fundraisers that help contribute to stopping human trafficking not only in South Africa, but all over the world. We also made pamphlets to hand out to that gave information on the organization that helps, fundraisers, and what the laws help this situation. I think that we all learned something valuable from this project knowing that there is people all around the world that don’t have a say so in their life while we do. This will help us not take our everyday lives and freedoms for granted.

  23. What I have learned throughout the course of the awareness project is that there a lot of rights being violated. There were a lot of human rights violations stated in the speeches delivered from my classmates on issues around the world. I also learned that people are getting away with breaking these rights and other people usually have to pay the price for their decisions. I’ve learned a lot from the research I did for my speech as well as the awareness campaign. What I learned is even though there are people in the world violating the human rights of people, there are also people out there trying to end and put away human rights violators. Organization like human rights watch and amnesty international are keeping watch and, helping, and informing people of human rights being abused in places other than just the United States. From the campaign project I have learned many ways women and children are being tortured by getting trafficked for their own family’s finance troubles. I also learned many ways people including me can help put this issue away.

  24. I have learned many things because of the Awareness Campaign. Doing the speech I learned a lot about how it’s not only women and girls who are getting sold, it is also men and boys. I also learned the many ways people can be lead into human trafficking, due to the speech. While watching my peers present I gained a lot of knowledge on other human rights issues. For example, Joey Piver’s presentation taught me a lot about how people are allowed to protest at a funeral and even get police protection! I also saw many different perspectives on issues. When doing the Campaign centers I learned even more about human trafficking but this time I got to learn about the issue in Africa instead of Thailand. I discovered that they use young children because they are believed to cure AID’s and HIV, when really they are just harming another life! This Campaign really taught me a lot and made me grateful for having the family, life, and country that I live in.

  25. During this project I have certainly learned a lot. For starters I didn’t know there was a universal declaration of human rights. But sadly I also didn’t realize how weak the UN was and how it really can’t uphold its own policies. Sadly from the speeches and various presentations I also learned how many nations are breaking these laws. Added with my own research I was quite shocked to learn of all of the suffering going on. Even here in the US who we are supposed to be an example for other nations are breaking a lot and nothing is being done for that. Everyday people’s basic human rights are being violated and it seems no one cares. It’s truly in my eyes a sad thing and quite pitiful. But not all is bad. From this project I learned that people who motivate themselves can make a difference. As individuals we can shout and never be heard. But an individual can shout and motivate a crowd who’s cries cannot be anything but heard. It truly was touching and I’m glad we did this project. I believe I have learned more then I imagined I could. Not just as a student but as a human being as well.

  26. At the beginning of the awareness project I didn’t know a lot about human rights and how they’re violated. I didn’t even know that the declaration of human rights existed. But over the few weeks I have learned the meaning of human rights and numerous amounts of ways that they’re violated. People all over the world are being deprived of their rights daily; whether it’s being called names for being attracted to the opposite sex, being kidnapped from your home to be used as a sex slave, or being physically abused just because you're a woman. Before this project I thought everyone was being exposed to education. After research, I came to realize that everyone has the right to free education until college but not everyone is getting this opportunity. This project opened my eyes to all of the cruel and unusual punishment that is being exposed to people all over the world. Each year 800,000 men, women and children are trafficked across borders; they woke up that day not even expecting to be kidnapped and forced to do things they don’t want to. Overall, from this project I learned that I’m blessed to have my rights, and we as fellow citizens should work together as a community to help gain the rights of people not as fortunate as us.

  27. Before we started the Awareness Project, I had never heard about the Declaration of Human Rights. I never even knew that there was such a thing as a Declaration of Human Rights. So, I would say that I learned that we actually have a Declaration of Human Rights, and all about it. I learned how to do an outline so that I knew when to get everything done in a timely manner. I also learned how to do a campaign letter, a campaign poster, a campaign brochure, and a campaign article. I learned how to do those things in a well-organized way and I learned how to do them business style. So that whoever saw those things wouldn’t think that we were a bunch of middle schoolers TRYING to do things that way. I hope they think/thought that we were college kids EXCEED in doing those things.
I learned all about the rights that are stated in the Declaration of Human Rights. I couldn’t recite them to you or anything like that. But I know a lot more about them now that I ever did before we started doing this project/campaign. I believe that it is best that you know your rights, because if someone just so happens to put you in jail for your spiritual beliefs then, (if you know your rights) you could tell that person that what they are doing to you is wrong, and hopefully fight against it. But if you do not know what your rights are, then how can you stand up for yourself? How could you tell that person who puts you in jail just because he or she does not believe what you believe spiritually that what they were doing to you is wrong? You would have no evidence to back that statement up if you did not know what your rights were.

  28. Over the course of this Awareness Project, I began to gain much knowledge on the issues occurring around the world. I actually started becoming aware which is what this project was all about. In the beginning, I had very little knowing of any Human Rights violations and hadn’t even heard of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. In many of the topics that brought concern, stood similar issues; cruelty. When writing the speech, researching current issues, and campaigning, I realized that there are laws against these violations. Whether they were totally irrelevant or right on the dot, these problems around the World have a specific law that they corresponded with. The problem occurring though was that the laws were not being followed. For example: when researching Human Trafficking, I noticed that there were many laws like: Freedom from Slavery that were presented, but not directly followed. I grew over time during this project because I started to understand what is happening in the world I live in and that things need to be different. There were many ways to help these problems including organizations, programs, and simply spreading the word. I learned that I can make a difference in someone else’s life. I now understand what a big impact Human Rights has on my life and how easily I take advantage of it. One of my favorite quotes out of this project is “If we don’t stop it, it will stop us.” We are supposed to be nations united in helping one another, working together, but spreading awareness is the cure.

  29. Over the course of the Awareness Project I learned that there are many issues occurring worldwide there is not one state, city, county, country, or continent that does not have any type of issues ongoing. Through research that I have gathered over the weeks as a class I came to an understanding that human rights are being taken away from human beings. They are being taken away from human beings who cannot defend for their selves and or their families. As a class we reviewed the UDHR (Universal Declaration of Human Rights) and saw that there were many major laws being violated. Human Rights is not just a big issue it is classified to me as an very vast issues that does not only affect one specific person but the people surrounded in that specific location. When I first began researching the topic I had chosen I thought I would have been known everything needed to know, but I didn’t. I have learned so much about how the violations are taking place, how and who they are affecting and so on. At the end of the day seeing that each and every issue occurring has an organization and or ways to help releases all the worrying off my chest.

  30. There are many things that I have learned over the course of the Awareness Project. The most important thing that I have learned is that there are many different human rights violations in many different countries. At the beginning of our research, I did not know there were that many violations. I was very surprised to find that there were countries that are violating many human rights, and there is nothing being done about it. After researching, the facts gave me a better understanding as of what is happening in the world and what exactly is being violated. This needs to change, and we have noticed that the only thing that there is to fix it, is awareness. Between the speeches that were presented, the research and the campaigns, there were many things that were repeated. I know that from my personal research, awareness and society were the biggest issues in human rights violations. To fix this we have noticed that the only way is to put our issues, as well as the violations, into society’s face, bluntly. I think that we have tolerated human rights violations for long enough and this research that we have done over the course of the Awareness Project has brought to my attention that we need to do something about these violations, immediately.

  31. I learned a lot about human rights over the course of the awareness project. In truth before I had no clue what the actual right were, and now I have a good idea what they are. The most interesting thing to me was the fact that so many of the different right were being violated. I would have never guessed that so many different rights were broken in so many different countries. The rights that were being violated varied so greatly it was quite amazing, from the large human trafficking to discrimination that happens all over the planet. We also learned about how to set up an effective awareness campaign, this included making a poster, a pamphlet, a letter, and an article. My biggest growth would understanding further what actually happens around the world as far as human rights defilements, and all of the terrible things that happen to a day to day basis which could be and need to be stopped!

  32. Over the course of the speech, research and campaign, I learned a lot about how the human rights that we have are not being followed not only in certain places, but all around the world. These rights are for everyone, man, woman, boy and girl, but mostly benefit males. Like child marriage in Yemen. The husbands of these children beat and sometimes stab them, but when the children tell their parents, they don’t do anything, basically giving them the right to maybe even murder their wives. Even though this cruel act is still going on, there are organizations trying to stop it right now. There are organizations all over the world trying to stop certain things that are violating the human rights of people everywhere. I also learned that you can make a difference no matter how small, young or inferior you think you are. Anyone can make a difference by just making note of an issue. Just by going out in your community and telling people about an issue and then asking them to help is a very big step. You will never know how many people are willing to help unless you go out and show people that you think it is wrong and that you have the courage to try and fix it. Most people won’t stand up on their own because they aren’t leaders. If you are a leader and you know you have the power to establish an organization, then go for it and make a difference.

  33. I have learned that the researching and the writing of the speech way the easiest part. The speech was the hardest part of the whole project because I was completely on my own and I had to know what I was talking about and memorize the speech (the best I could). Then presenting the speech in front of the whole class was terrifying because I don’t like every single pair of eye in the room staring at me. The campaign part of the speech was okay because my group got everything done a day early and one day to prepare the materials, but we were a little talkative. I feel the best part of the project, was knowing that we got everything done on time and turned in on time.
I grew in understanding of the human rights issues not only to know what that meant but the understanding of how they work and how these violations can be stopped. I learned the laws of human rights also. I never even heard of these things before now partly because I don’t really focus on the world as a whole I just look at what’s around me right at that time. The most important part of the laws is how they are violated and what we can do to stop because if we know the violation then we know what we can do to help. Like donations, reporting any violations you know of, join organizations and so many, many more. I feel the most important thing I learn from this is that I have decisions to join or rebel against these violations, to not make myself part of them, and just do the right thing because what I do can or will hurt or help others.

  34. When doing the Awareness project I started to understand more of the human rights being violated. Before I didn’t know human trafficking was a violation of anything. I originally thought that the world just agreed it was morally wrong so that is why they tried to stop human trafficking from occurring. Now I learned there is a legal document that states’ rights that cannot be violated. I also learned where to spot these violations of human rights. One human right that was being violated that I thought was just a law in the United States is discrimination. Discrimination has been going on for a long time and I just thought it was wrong because of what I have read in the bible, treat others the way you want to be treated. Finally I have learned that human right violations have been occurring for a very long time even before the Declaration of Human rights. We should try to enforce Human Rights to the best of our ability and teach the public about them and raise awareness about them now; therefore, future generations can lean to follow Human Rights and look out for Human Rights violations.

  35. What I have learn so far through the course of the Awareness Project (speech, research, campaign) is that as students we should stop all the aggressions that are going on towards human rights. Many people do not know that they have a voice that they can speech up. That’s why we did the posters for people to inform themselves that they do have a right to many things and if it’s not you it could be the next person. We wrote to the president and others in charge of human rights with a purpose to show them that there are many issues they should discuss. We made a speech to tell our fellow classmates that by the power of speech we could do something different, persuade how their thoughts could change for the better. We have learned all the things people in traffic to Africa go through, all that happens to them, the fate that they cannot control. How they do have a say, how they can be safely at home without worrying that on the next corner there could be someone dangerous.
Human Rights are something I enjoyed learning about for the fact that I was not as ignorant as before on how to protect myself on false accusation. Therefore I may not be guilty of a charge that one has not committed. You have to hold a trial and have knowledge by evidence that one’s has committed a crime charge upon on. Therefor I would have facts that one may not persecute me with the simple excuse of just a guess and not an explanation.

  36. What I have learned over the course of researching, doing hands on activities and listening to my fellow classmates speak is that were all alike but at the same time different. What I mean is that we all have the same rights but everyone may not do the same things that others may do on a regular basis and because that’s such an easy target for people they pick at it more than other points. The one thing that the speeches had in common was that they all had to deal with cruelty and unfairness. Also, watching others give their speeches and how they stood on the subject at hand, made me realize that a lot of people are having a rougher time than me and that I wanted to help in some way.
The campaign opened my eyes a little bit more about the world’s conditions and what many people have or are going through right now as you read this. It has given me a greater value for the “not so important things in life.” I have also gained a more of an understanding of how cruel life could be but more on an appreciative level for how good I have it. Even though I’m not in those types of situations that all of the grade level have been reading about. The research helped me to see how many people like proximity within the actual number of just how many people are affected by the academics that were presented to the class.

  37. Reminiscing back to the very beginning of the Awareness project, I wasn’t as educated about many things as I thought I was. I have learned the Human Rights laws in detail and became more aware about issues in this world that I didn’t think was happening. Many of the given speeches were about topics that I didn’t know was going on and it changed the way I see things in this world. Many people aren’t given the same rights as us. Human Rights laws are meant to protect human beings but people are violating it and are going unpunished for it. This whole unit has shed light on many things for me and made me learn a lot. I’m looking at the world in a new perspective and it is definitely not as perfect as it seems. I hear about people getting beaten, tortured, and raped on the news but a lot of it still goes unnoticed by authorities. I’ve learned how to effectively create and plan a campaign and give a speech to bring more attention to topics that most people are unaware of. After this campaign, I’ve grown to care more about what is going on in the world.

  38. I learned many things throughout this campaign. I learned many human rights I didn’t even know existed and how each of those human rights are being ignored by committing these terrible crimes and cruel acts. I learned more about all the topics we touched on. I heard about many different crimes that people are committing and how terrible it all is. From human trafficking to child abuse, it is all wrong. This has been a great learning experience and it was a real eye opener for what really goes on in the world and how scary it is.

  39. During the human rights campaign and during our research I have learned that most human rights that are published and known are being violated. I also learned that people know of these human rights but still don’t honor them. Many countries lie and say that they fully comply with all the human rights but they don’t. For an example the fact of human trafficking in South Africa. Many innocent people are being violated of their human rights by being tortured and performing uncountable sexual acts against their will. I think I have grown throughout this research because I am now aware of the situations that are occurring when countries and citizens are not obeying human rights. I also grew because now I have an understanding of what young girls and boys in South Africa go through. I see that not obeying with the human rights and it is destroying young kid’s lives day after day. These children are being beaten to death and when they are not following orders they would get whipped or even killed. The Women are also being whipped for not following directions and getting raped. This is sad because young women are being effected with hiv/aids or getting pregnant and then have to bring their children to this type of environment. I also learned that there are people that are out there to help this situation to raise awareness and make this known.

  40. Throughout the project I have learned about human rights which are the basic rights a citizen has in the world. I have gone in depth in certain things about how other countries have abused them and what is done for the issue to be reinforced. I have also found out that we are lucky to have freedom of speech because many other countries do not have as much freedom. I made an awareness project on what I thought was important for others to see that it was important and that it needed to be taken care of. Our class made a project on human trafficking in Africa. There are many causes for this problem for example; lack of education, poverty, large amount of family members, ignorance, and much more. The children are sold for their organs, labor, camel jockeys and sexual exploitation. I have learned ways to help stop this cause that is not only affecting Africa but worldwide.

  41. I learned a lot of things during the Awareness Project. We made a campaign that made awareness about human trafficking. In this unit we have been studying about human rights and how they are being violated. All around the world human rights are being violated and in most countries poverty is a big deal. A lot of people in different countries are suffering because people are violated the laws. I’ve notice in most of the speeches they contain the problem of violence, suffering and abuse and this is a big deal that is why we did awareness project. People can help out like In the topic of human trafficking a way people can help is by donating at a website. There are organizations where we can help and join to help others and make awareness. I found a lot of interesting things in the research we had to do. This has made me think of what other people in the world are going through. I have learned a lot during the awareness project and now I know new things about the issues in the world.

During the awareness campaign I’ve learned many things about human rights. I never knew that there was a Universal Declaration of Human Rights. But I did now that there was many laws being broke. I learned that many organizations within countries have violated most of the laws. Never new those horrific things happen to other kids my age. During the project I found many groups that try to help people in the human rights struggle. There are laws in countries prohibit women from enjoying any kind of social activity. There are laws in china that says you’re only allowed to have one child. Looking for topics to write about gave me a sense of how other countries act.

During the project I learned some human rights and that there’s a universal declaration of human rights. Learning them made me realize that an amount of them are not being followed or obeyed every day. And that for a few of them nothing is being done, as in there is no action being took to protect them but for some there are associations that are helping in some way. With the different topics that were chosen I learned a little about each one. I learned what I can do to help and what it’s violating and how much/many things it’s effecting. Due to the human rights project I have changed my whole perspective and thought/opinion on a few things.

  44. I have learned many things over the course of the Awareness Project. I learned a lot about the death penalty since it was the topic I chose, and I also learned about human rights violations around the world. I have learned from the campaign for human trafficking in Africa that the issue of slavery has been around as early as man. Although it is stated in the UDHR that no one shall be held as a slave, slavery still reoccurs frequently throughout our history. The information from the speeches given would clearly indicate that human rights violations exist basically anywhere where there are people. It seems to me that the biggest issue that is presented with human rights laws is enforcing them. Although they are written in the Universal Declaration of human Rights, they are often violated without punishment. Some of the human rights laws are misinterpreted or manipulated for a certain purpose. This can lead to violence and controversy amongst a population. Another issue with the enforcing of human rights is the way people live in other areas of the world. Things that may be cultural in certain parts of the world may be considered inhumane or wrong according to the UDHR.

  45. I learned a variety of things during the campaign, and I also enjoyed working together to help stop the terrible crime taking place in Africa. I learned that slavery is not over, and that it isn't even close to being over. Learning how to make a difference in a formal approach will definitely influence future campaigns or any other awareness events. The treatment of the people in Africa disturbed me a great deal, and often left me shaking my head and wondering why people could do such inhuman and degrading things to another human being. I learned that there are people out there that only work to their best interest and are self-centered enough to subject an innocent child into sexual servitude or hard labor. No one should be subjected to such treatment. I learned that some people have no compassion or courtesy for other human beings, and that they only work to fulfill their agendas no matter who they trample over and kill to get there. On the brighter side of this situation, I also learned about the people who are compassionate and who genuinely care about people they may have never met; I am one of those people, and I take pride in that fact. While doing this campaign I came across a lot of realizations about myself, I realized that I strongly believe in voicing the pain of others and conveying the message they cannot deliver. I learned so much from this campaign starting with the research, I researched different stories and facts and it really impacted me and made me feel as though I can make a difference even if I am on another continent several miles away!

  46. I have learned many new things from the awareness project. Before the project, I didn’t completely understand what human rights abuses were. I used to think that some of the things that are human rights abuses were just illegal. Now I know that they’re not only illegal in some countries, but illegal internationally according to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. I also learned that anybody can to help victims of human rights abuses even if the government where the human rights abuses are happening doesn’t do anything about it. Helping victims is a lot easier than I thought it was. In just a few weeks in class, we did an awareness campaign. It didn’t take a lot of money and we didn’t have to start our own organization. During my research, I found out that almost every human rights abuse has several organizations that help victims. One of the biggest things I learned was that the Universal Declaration of Human Rights exists. I had never heard of it before this project. It surprised me that there are so many human right abuses going on currently. Some of the things that continue to happen are things that I thought stopped a long time ago. I also learned from the speeches. Many of the topics were things that I didn’t know about before. I’ve learned several things about human rights abuses and how to do awareness campaigns.
